Tickets are now on general sale for Laurence Osborn Day at the Wigmore Hall on 25th November 2023. The day includes performances of Coin Op Automata, Automaton, Rendering Error, Juvenilia and two new commissions: one for string quartet and one for six voices. The music will be performed by Solem Quartet, Marian Consort, and Britten Sinfonia and Mahan Esfahani conducted by William Cole. Click here to book tickets.

Fenella Humphreys’s solo album Caprices, which features my piece Rendering Error, has been awarded The Première Award at the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2023. The album, which also contains pieces by Freya Waley-Cohen and Oliver Leith, is available here.

The Wigmore Hall have announced their new season including a day of my music on 25th November 2023. The lineup includes Britten Sinfonia, Mahan Esfahani, Castalian Quartet, and Marian Consort across three concerts. There will be world premières of new pieces for string quartet and vocal ensemble (a collaboration with poet Joseph Minden), plus the London première of Coin Op Automata and performances of Automaton, Juvenilia, and Rendering Error. Cheltenham Festival have announced some of the lineup for next year’s festival, including a performance of TOMB! which will be given by 12 Ensemble and GBSR Duo, alongside a full performance of Brian Eno’s Ambient 2 at Cheltenham Town Hall on July 14th 2023 at 9pm. Norfolk and Norwich Festival have announced some of the lineup for next year’s festival, including the world première of TOMB! which will be given by 12 Ensemble and GBSR Duo, alongside a full performance of Brian Eno’s Ambient 2 at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich on May 19th 2023 at 8pm. Essential Relaxing Classical Hits has been nominated for the Ivors Composer Awards in the Chamber Ensemble category. Winners will be announced at the Ivors Composer Awards ceremony on November 15th 2022.

Essential Relaxing Classical Hits will be performed again by Ensemble Klang and Agata Zubel at their Musical Utopias Festival 2023 in Den Haag. The festival runs from 12th-14th January; Essential Relaxing Classical Hits will open the festival on January 12th, 2023. More information is available here.

I will be writing an orchestral piece for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra as part of their Sounds New initiative. The piece will be premièred as part of a concert twenty (!) new pieces, on 29th January 2023 at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. My ‘Sounding Change’ programme, which is about the ways in which twenty-first-century reality has been transformed and distorted, will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s New Music Show from 10pm this evening. The programme features excerpts from my piece Essential Relaxing Classical Hits, and music by Bertram Wee and Joanna Bailie. You can listen to it here.

My Fanfare and Chorale will be performed today by members of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at Norwich Cathedral. The piece was commissioned by Norfolk and Norwich Festival as part of their 250th birthday celebrations.

This week, I will be heading to Iceland to record my solo electric guitar piece Heart Little Heart with soloist Petur Jonasson. Heart Little Heart is a Riot Ensemble/Ernst von Siemens Zeitgeist Commission, and will be available on Riot Ensemble’s YouTube channel later in the year.

Rendering Error for Solo Violin (2019) has been recorded and released by Fenella Humphreys on the album Caprices (Rubicon Classics, 2022). Rendering Error is available from the Rubicon Classics website, and on all platforms including Apple Music and Spotify.

Fanfare and Chorale for 5 Brass Instruments (2022), which was commissioned by Norfolk and Norwich Festival for their 250th anniversary, will be performed at various locations around Norwich City Centre on the festival’s opening weekend (13th-15th May 2022) by members of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Manchester Collective’s Autumn 2021 Season has been announced, including two performances of Coin Op Automata for Harpsichord and String Quartet (2021). The world première of Essential Relaxing Classical Hits for Soprano and 6 Players (2020-21) has been announced as part of November Music Festival 2021, Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. Co-commissioned by November Music and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Essential Relaxing Classical Hits will receive its world première on 13th November 2021, with soloist Agata Zubel and Ensemble Klang. They will take place at Lakeside Arts, Nottingham (live stream, 14th May), and Leeds Town Hall (18th May), in addition to the previously announced date at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich (21st May). All performances will be given by Manchester Collective and Mahan Esfahani.

Ensemble Modern’s German première of Automaton with soloist Ueli Wiget and conductor Jonathan Stockhammer will be broadcast on HR2 Kultur at 8pm this evening, as part of a programme including works by George Benjamin, Harrison Birtwistle, Oliver Knussen, and Helen Grime. The German première of Automaton for Harpsichord and Chamber Ensemble (2019) was performed by Ensemble Modern with soloist Ueli Wiget, conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer on 14th March 2021. The German première of Automaton for Harpsichord and Chamber Ensemble (2019) has been rescheduled, and the conductor changed due to Covid-19 restrictions. The performance will now take place on March 14th, with Ensemble Modern conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer. The performance will be streamed live, as well as being broadcast on HR2 Kultur on April 22nd. Click here for more details.

I have been commissioned by The Riot Ensemble, for the latest round of their Zeitgeist commissions. The Riot Ensemble have been awarded a grant from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation for the project. My piece, written for guitarist Petur Jonasson, will be premièred online this winter, along with works by Errolyn Wallen, Bryn Harrison, Nina Whiteman, Oliver Thurley, and Naomi Pinnock. On February 14th, the Riot Ensemble and soloist Sarah Dacey will be giving the London première of Ctrl (2017) as part of the launch of their ReNew Series at Kings Place.
